Un nuevo tipo de Acné...

Every year, the Royal Spanish Academy adds lexical news to its Dictionary of the Spanish language, but these are not always clear, understood, generally used, or completely accepted by commentators and critics of the Spanish language and some people or groups in society. Sometimes, the Academy is criticized for incorporating into the Dictionary of the Spanish language words that are not used or that nobody knows, leaving behind others whose notoriety and merits are evident; so there are groups or collectives that aspire to certain words, with their respective definitions, to disappear from the Dictionary; to include others (Muñoz, 2020).
Of the new words that have been downloaded to the Dictionary of the Spanish language, the ones that have attracted the most attention are those related to the pandemic; For example, chinstrap, chinstrap, muzzle, among others, which have been surprising because they are unknown in Spain, but it must be remembered that the Dictionary not only records the Spanish of Spain, but also the Castilian lexicon of the other countries that have it as a national and own language (Muñoz, 2020). Among the words that have come to the fore during the pandemic is also: Maskné.
Millions of people in the world wear masks every day to prevent the contagion and spread of COVID-19. However, its use for long periods of time and for many hours during the day, has brought serious consequences on people's skin; not only irritations, but also infections and blemishes located in the lower half of the face. Health professionals in the dermatological area are already familiar with such a problem, and the new word they use to describe this pathology is: Maskné, that is, acne resulting from the use of a mask.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the etymology, phonetics and definition of the term Maskné. It describes in depth the origin and meaning of the term maskné, its documentation, and graphic and phonetic variants used to refer to it. It is a descriptive documentary study supported by bibliographic sources such as scientific articles and historical dictionaries, etymological documents, as well as the opinion of language critics and commentators.
