Abstract

The extraction of follicular units is a minimally invasive medical technique of hair transplantation used in problems of alopecia; extracting directly from the donor area the follicular units to another area called recipient. The purpose of this clinical case is to show the results in the application of the technique of extraction of follicular units in temporoparietal regions, as the first case of hair transplantation of this type in Colombia. It explains what should be taken into account when choosing follicular units, how is the extraction process, what are the two types of techniques to extract follicular units, as well as the instruments used to perform the technique. The analysis shows that the technique of extraction of follicular units can be successfully performed in temporoparietal areas and its results are clearly observable, even after eight days of surgery. It is concluded that the technique of follicular unit extraction causes minimal discomfort post-surgery, the recovery time is short, and the visibility of the scar is minimal, being an excellent solution for patients diagnosed with alopecia, whose natural results generate a high degree of satisfaction. Therefore, the extraction of follicular units is a promising technique, which day by day gains more acceptance both in patients and in the medical environment, especially because its application is possible in various areas of the scalp, even in the temporoparietal areas
